I home-school my son who is 11 and this was part of his reading curriculum for the year. From the very start I was grabbed and felt like I was in the story. I love how it is written from a Christian point of view, It was not gruesome yet was able to "get the point across". We both loved this book so much, he wanted to buy it for one of his teachers at church. He is even reading it again for the 2nd time. There are so many life lessons that are taught in this book. As an adult I would even say, this is my new all time favorite book. Many of the parts of the books,I have printed out and have placed through the house to read. I have recommenced this to my homeschooling friends and those who dont. I think it should be a required reading for all kids. I wish there were more books by Mrs. Hess!
My son ,11 yr old , was reading this book together with his classmates for an English class book report and he was so impressed with this story , that he asked me to see if I could find it for him so he could own his own copy. So glad I found it on Amazon! Was one of the last ones left! I bought it for him for Christmas and he has read through it twice so far.
One of my favorites as a child. I bought these for my students. The story isn't a light one, but it teaches some great truths.
I will never tire of reading this story and gift it as often as I can.
This is a great story to read with your pre-teen. It gives an example of what the time was like in a way they can understand.
I homeschool my kids and we read this aloud together while studying WWII ( grades 8,6,2) .We all eagerly awaited the next chapter. The themes of courage and integrity were woven into a great story. We loved the scripture and Gospel message portrayed throughout the story. Highly recommend this book!
